The Longbow Page
2012
Will this be another landmark year for longbow archery, etched in history forever, like 1415? All the signs were pointing this way when 13 FTA longbow archers attended their first muster of the year. So many new bows were on display, that rumour has it, many archers have been hanging longbow socks for Santa rather than the traditional stockings.
A warm welcome to all our new longbow converts, to Rachel, Alan, George, Joseph, Linda, Harvey and our non shooting member Denise.
Congratulations to Linda and Harvey for shooting third class scores, first time out with their new bows, and to George for shooting a second class score with his beautiful Adrian Hayes bow.
Congratulations to John for shooting his third second class score before the end of January and also for setting what must be a new club record by breaking two bows in the space of ten days!
More congratulations to Kieron for winning the St Nicholas Shoot and to Vic, who not only recieved his Bowman classification, but won the coveted Pierce Pierre Trophy for 2011. This sent our noble Frenchman limping back across the channel to lick his wounds over the festive period.
As January came to a close however, the call to arms was heard again. Pierre had returned to lay siege to Lower Chatley. How dismayed he must have been to see the swollen ranks of FTA bowmen who had answered that call. Our loyal company managed to bring an impressive 15 bows to the defensive line and when Pierre heard the chilling commands of "Nock...Draw...Loose" he knew he didn't stand a chance. Peace was soon returned to the Woolverton fields.
