What of the bow?                                                         What of the shaft?
The bow was made in England:                                  The shaft was cut in England:
Of true wood, of yew wood,                                        A long shaft, a strong shaft,
The wood of English bows;                                         Barbed and trim and true;
So men who are free                                                      So we'll drink all together
Love the old yew tree                                                   To the gray goose feather
And the land where the yew tree grows.                   And the land where the gray goose flew

What of the cord?                                                         What of the men?
The cord was made in England:                                  The men were bred in England:
A rough cord, a tough cord,                                        The bowman--the yeoman--
A cord that bowmen love;                                           The lads of dale and fell
So we'll drain our jacks                                                 Here's to you--and to you;
To the English flax                                                        To the hearts that are true
And the land where the hemp was wove.                 And the land where the true hearts dwell.
